Ben Llewellyn-Jones OBE

Biography

Ben Llewellyn-Jones is a British diplomat with a varied career covering many countries and issues. Most recently he was British Deputy High Commissioner (head of office) in Lagos, Nigeria. Prior to that he worked as the Deputy High Commissioner at the British High Commission in South Africa, the Political Counsellor at the British High Commission in Abuja, and as British High Commissioner to Rwanda and non-resident Ambassador to Burundi.

Whilst working in Brussels at the UK Mission to the EU, Ben Llewellyn-Jones led on negotiations concerning policing and organised crime, representing the UK at and chairing a range of senior multilateral working groups.

While in London Ben Llewellyn-Jones served as the Deputy Head of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Climate Change and Energy Group and as Head of the Zimbabwe Unit. He also worked on the UK’s strategy to counter illegal migration when Head of the Third Country Unit’s team at the Home Office, and in the Home Office press office.

He was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by HM Queen Elizabeth II in 2009 for his service to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (now Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office).

Ben is married to Laura and together they have 2 children. He enjoys rugby, running, reading and spending time with his family.
