Mungo Woodifield
Biography
Mungo Woodifield serves as the Minister Counsellor for Trade and Global Issues at the British Embassy to the United States of America. Mr Woodifield is responsible for overseeing the UK Government’s work across the United States on trade, economic security, agriculture, energy, climate, environment, transport, science and technology.
Prior to this role, Mr Woodifield served as Spokesperson and Counsellor at the UK Mission to the United Nations in New York from 2019 to 2024. In this capacity, Mr Woodifield represented the UK to international media and advised the Ambassador across a range of multilateral issues, including conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, the climate crisis, and global development.
A career diplomat, Mr Woodifield served as Strategic Affairs Counsellor at the British Embassy to France from 2015 to 2019. During this period, he worked to advance UK-France bilateral cooperation on defence and international security issues. He also completed an earlier posting at the UK Mission to the UN in New York from 2011 to 2015 working in the UN Security Council.
Mr Woodifield has held several roles in London at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and began his career working in Sudan as a journalist. He holds degrees from the University of Cambridge and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

Counsellor for Global Issues, USA
The Counsellor for Global Issues leads the UK government’s prosperity policy agenda in the USA, including trade, economic, energy/environment, transport, technology policy and science and innovation policy.
The counsellor provides direction, strategic insight, clarity and coherence on prosperity across eight teams, the Embassy, and the whole of the US Network. The counsellor also engages and deliberates with US Administration, Congressional, business and civil society figures
