Naureen Khalid

Biography

Naureen is a Commissioner for the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities.

Naureen Khalid is an education professional with more than ten years’ experience working in school governance.

She started her governance career when she was elected as a parent governor of a foundation school. Upon conversion to academy status, Khalid became a trustee and, at a later stage, a Member of the academy trust. She was elected Vice Chair and, working closely with the Chair, led the process to join a national multi-academy trust (MAT). She was subsequently appointed chair of the Local Governing Body (LGB) by the trust.

Khalid was asked to join the LGB of a local junior school (part of small, local MAT) as a community governor. As Chair she took the school rating from Good to Outstanding. Because of her governance experience she was later asked to join the trust board. The board also asked Khalid to serve on the LGB of the latest school to join the trust in order to strengthen its governance.

As a governor, Khalid has represented her schools’ governing bodies during Ofsted inspections. She is active nationally and presents at various education events. She authors a leading governance blog and also helps run a Twitter forum that provides support to school governors across the country.
