Nick Low

Biography
Nick Low was appointed British High Commissioner to Maldives in January 2025.
Nick joined what was then the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1993. He had previously worked in the National Health Service for two years as an engineer and in London’s Metropolitan Police Service for ten years, serving in both uniform and detective branches. Nick has served overseas in Morocco, Chile, Brazil, Algeria, Bangladesh, China and, most recently, as British Deputy High Commissioner to East and Northeast India based in Kolkata. In London he has worked in treaty-based conventional arms control and nuclear non-proliferation.
Nick was educated at Christ’s College Cambridge and Bedford College London and is a graduate of the Police Staff College Bramshill. He has a BA (Honours) Class One and an MA in Ancient History. Nick is married with two children, both in full-time education. Nick’s wide-ranging interests include sport, politics, history, cinema and travel. He is a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Global Economic & Social Development at University of Northampton.

The High Commissioner is the UK government’s representative in a Commonwealth nation. They are responsible for the direction and work of the High Commission, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
