Dr Patricia Rice

Biography

Patricia is a Senior Research Fellow at St. Anne’s College and at the Department of Economics, Oxford University where she had previously been Associate Head of Research and Deputy Head of Department. Previous academic positions include posts at the Universities of Sussex, Southampton and British Columbia.

Patricia was a member of the School Teachers Review Body between 2011 and 2021; first as the economist member and from 2014, as the Chair. The STRB is an independent body that advises the Secretary of State for Education on pay and conditions for teachers and school leaders in England.

Patricia’s primary research field is labour economics and her work has examined the transition of young people from full-time schooling to the labour market, analysing the factors influencing participation in post-compulsory education and training and subsequent labour market outcomes. Her recent research has focused on spatial aspects of labour markets, analysing the sources of persistent regional disparities in productivity and earnings.
