Dr Peter Knight CBE
Biography
Peter Knight retired from the position of Vice Chancellor of Birmingham City University in 2007.
He read physics at the University of York where his academic interests included astrophysics and the behaviour of semi-conducting materials. While a lecturer at Plymouth Polytechnic he was elected National President of NATFHE, the union that represented the interests of 60,000 lecturers in further and higher education. From 1990 - 1994 he was a member and subsequently Chair of the Colleges Employers’ Forum which acted for Colleges and Universities in negotiating staff pay and conditions.
He has served on a number of National Committees involved in the determination of policy in higher education including the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council and the Teacher Training Agency. In the West Midlands he has been involved for many years in the work of Housing Associations including the Chairmanship of the Prime Focus Housing Group.
Since 2007 he has held the appointment as a Local Government Boundary Commissioner for England. From 2004 – 2010 he was a member of the Armed Forces Pay Review Body.
