Biography

Phil Smith is the Chair of Skills England, an executive agency being set up within the Department of Education.

Phil is an experienced executive and non-executive leader with a background in technology, innovation and skills.

He brings a track record of engagement and advocacy in the skills system from the industry side, with a number of high-profile non-executive roles, including:

• current Co-Chair of the government’s Digital Skills Council
• former Chair of Innovate UK
• former Chief Executive and Chair of Cisco UK and Ireland
