Rebecca Fabrizi
Biography
Rebecca Fabrizi is the UK’s Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Envoy. She is also Deputy Director for the Americas and Head of the Caribbean and SIDS Department at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
Before this, Rebecca was Head of the Joint Unit for resettlement of eligible persons from Afghanistan, and before that she was Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Serbia. She has also worked on trade and development at the UK Mission to the UN and World Trade Organisation in Geneva, and also spent 4 years as Political Counsellor at the British Embassy in Rome.
Rebecca has held previous roles relating to China, including:
- 2 roles at the British Embassy in Beijing
- Head of the China Division of the European External Action Service in Brussels
- Associate Director of the Australian Centre on China in the World, at the Australian National University in Canberra.
Rebecca has an MA in modern languages from the University of Oxford and an MSc in financial economics from the University of London. She has reached C2 level in Mandarin, Serbian, Russian, Italian and French.
Special Envoy for Small Island Developing States
Special representatives use their expertise to develop a greater coherent effort in making sure that the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) works closely and effectively with foreign powers.
The Special Envoy for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) leads the UK government’s policy to support SIDS, and ensure that their vulnerabilities are recognised and addressed. The Special Envoy engages with SIDS’ governments, international donors, multilateral organisations, and financial institutions.
