Richard Schofield
Biography
Richard is a Chartered Town Planner and is The Planning Inspectorate’s most senior Planning Inspector. He joined The Planning Inspectorate in 2013 from a senior management role in local government. He has also worked in the private and Third sectors. In addition to practical expertise gained from his work as a town planner and Planning Inspector, he has considerable experience of operational and strategic management. Richard has responsibility for inspectors’ professional standards and the quality of PINS’ output, as well as being the liaison on policy matters with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and key stakeholder bodies.

The Planning Inspectorate deals with all planning appeals in England, including national infrastructure planning, listed building appeals and rights of way orders.
