Biography

Richard is a Chartered Town Planner and is The Planning Inspectorate’s most senior Planning Inspector. He joined The Planning Inspectorate in 2013 from a senior management role in local government. He has also worked in the private and Third sectors. In addition to practical expertise gained from his work as a town planner and Planning Inspector, he has considerable experience of operational and strategic management. Richard has oversight of inspector recruitment, professional development and output, as well as being the liaison on policy matters with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and key stakeholder bodies.

Chief Planning Inspector, Planning Inspectorate

The Planning Inspectorate deals with all planning appeals in England, including national infrastructure planning, listed building appeals and rights of way orders.

This role attends the Planning Inspectorate board meetings as a guest.
