Samantha Dunger

Biography

Samantha Dunger became Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Croatia in August 2024. She joined the Foreign Office in 2008. Since then her roles have included Head of NATO Strategy and Engagement, Head of MENAD Geopolitics and Demographics, and Head of Information Threats Strategy.

Before her current role in Croatia, Samantha worked as the Deputy Head of the FCDO’s Gender and Children in Conflict Department. Before that, Samantha was the UK’s Political, Economic and Prosperity Counsellor in Buenos Aires. She has also served in Mexico City as Second Secretary Economic and International Trade, and First Secretary Prosperity, Press and Public Diplomacy.

Samantha has also worked in the private sector for McKinsey and Company (Mexico) and KPMG (Australia).

Deputy Head of Mission to Croatia

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
