Sarah Chare
Biography
Sarah was appointed Executive Director of Local Operations at the Environment Agency in November 2023.
Sarah was Chief Operating Officer between August and November 2023.
Sarah has had a wide range of roles at The Environment Agency, and its predecessor, the National Rivers Authority.
Following an early career in fisheries, Sarah has:
- led the National Enforcement Service
- led national work on Agriculture, Fisheries and Biodiversity
- been Head of Operations, Director Incident Management & Resilience
- been Director Operations for South East & East England - where she held the national portfolio of work for environment, place and infrastructure
Most recently she has been Executive Director of Local Operations.
Sarah is a:
- member of the OpDel Excel programme for the most senior operational delivery leaders across the Civil Service
- sponsor of the Environment Agency’s Mental Health Network
Executive Director for Local Operations
The Executive Director of Local Operations is responsible for the Environment Agency’s front line operational activities and national incident management services.
These include:
- the performance of the organisation’s area teams
- communicating with customers and stakeholders
- ensuring a safe and productive workplace for employees
