Susan Geary
Biography
Susan Geary took up her role as Consul General and Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Athens in September 2021.
A career diplomat with wide ranging experience, Susan’s previous overseas postings have included Kosovo, UKDEL NATO and Afghanistan. Her role in the FCDO before Athens was as Deputy Head of Central and Southern Africa Department, covering a network of 16 British embassies and high commissions.
Susan joined the FCO in 1998.
Deputy Head of Mission, Greece
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
