Today, the Chancellor has written to Sir David Norgrove, Chair of the UK Statistics Authority (UKSA) to announce an extension to the consultation period for the current consultation on the timing of reform to the Retail Prices Index (RPI).

The government and UKSA are mindful that businesses and individuals are focused on mitigating the challenges that the coronavirus pandemic has created. In order to hold a meaningful consultation, the government and UKSA have agreed that it is necessary to extend the consultation period.

The consultation will now close for responses on 21 August (subject to coronavirus-related developments). The government and UKSA will respond to the consultation in the autumn.
