These statements set out the recommendations of the Committee on Mutagenicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment (COM). They include:

  • a 3-stage strategy for testing chemicals with no existing genotoxicity data
    • recommendations for stage 0: prescreening considerations prior to testing
    • recommendations for stage 1: a strategy for in vitro assessment
    • recommendations for stage 2: a strategy for in vivo testing
  • a final stage of recommendations for chemicals with inadequate genotoxicity data
