During the passage of the Academies Act 2010, DfE made a commitment to Parliament to publish an annual report on the performance of the academies sector. It covers:

• background information on the academies programme
• data showing the number, type and location of academies across the country
• information on how academies use freedom and flexibility to raise standards in their schools
