The Academies Financial Handbook 2013 was effective for accounting periods beginning 1 September 2013 and ending 31 August 2014. It was superseded on 1 September 2014 by the Academies Financial Handbook 2014, and is no longer in effect.

The handbook was issued by the Education Funding Agency (EFA) and was for academy trusts and their auditors. It:

• set out the responsibilities and requirements relating to academies’ financial governance and management
• described a financial framework for academy trusts that reflects their accountability to Parliament and the public

The supporting fact sheet is a brief guide to help academy trusts and auditors understand the changes made to the handbook in 2013.
