We have worked alongside the academies regulatory and commissioning review advisory group to consider how we can change our approach to managing the academies system so that it:

  • supports trusts to realise their full potential
  • delivers better outcomes for children

This report sets out how we will support trusts and build a resilient, trust-led system. Our approach is focused on:

  • reforming the regulatory system
  • embedding a clear definition of trust quality
  • strengthening departmental support

Guidance on the commissioning process including trust quality descriptions is available at Commissioning high-quality trusts.
