Can the department provide data regarding academies (both sponsored and/or converting) and their annual expenditure, as well as their Ofsted rating if this should apply.
Release
The most recent information available regarding academy expenditure is within the externally audited annual financial statements of an academy. The most recently filed accounts will be for the period 1 September 2009 to 31 August 2010.
Academies have, by statute, 9 months to furnish their accounts to Companies House so the 2010/11 accounts (i.e. 12 months to 31 August 2011) can be furnished by an academy to Companies House anytime between 1 September 2011 and 31 May 2012, and is likely to be in the latter half of this 9 month period, as time is required for them to be prepared and then audited.
The accounts are public documents and can be obtained for a small fee from Companies House. Alternatively the accounts may also be found, free of charge, on the Charity Commission’s (CC) website, as academies always furnish their accounts to the CC as well as registered charities. Please note, however, this website is not always up to date, particularly regarding more recently constituted academies.
Ofsted ratings can be found from their website.
