We have received a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 for the following:

“Thank you so much for your kindness in emailing ‘A Guide to Calibration Requirements for Traffic Enfrorcement Equipment’ to my AOL address for which I am very grateful. I don’t know whether you would happen to be aware of the following but I would be very grateful if you were aware of any material
on:

  1. Any rules regarding certificates relating to the circumstances of the actual recording of speed as required by the Road Traffic Act 1988, s20

  2. Further references to the requirement to check sub-surface sensors by driving over them every 6 months as required by para 13.3 of the ‘ACPO Code of Practice for Operational Use of Road Policing Enforcement Technology,

  3. Whether people calibrating sub-surface sensor based equipment need to be on a register of approved people like calibrators of radar equipment under
    para 29 of the ACPO Code

  4. Requirement of valid annual calibration for equipment to remain within type approval other than para 13.1 of the ACPO code
