Details
Draft technical guidance from ACRE to accompany the draft Genetic Technology (Precision Breeding) Regulations 2025. It will be reviewed by Defra and finalised if the precision breeding regulations are passed by Parliament. The draft regulations and this draft guidance apply to plants only.
This ACRE guidance is for those who will want to:
- release precision bred plants into the environment for research and development purposes under a precision bred organism release notice
- submit a marketing notice to Defra for a precision bred plant
This ACRE guidance explains:
- how to determine whether your organism meets the definition of being ‘precision bred’
- the information you will need to submit in a precision bred organism release notice
- the information you will need to submit in a marketing notice
- best practice to follow when releasing precision bred plants into the environment in research and development trials
If the draft precision breeding regulations are passed by Parliament, the finalised guidance will replace the current guidance for developers on notifying under qualifying higher plant notifications when the new regulations come into effect.
