Adam Giles Palmer, Luke Daniel Palmer and Kier Henry Edwin Petherick trading as F.C Palmer and Sons have applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary licence serial number 6/33/34/*S/0254/R01 which authorises the abstraction of water from drains within the South Level System, at Stretham, Cambridgeshire.
The variation applied for is:
- To add a purpose of filling reservoirs for subsequent water source heating and cooling;
- To extend the winter abstraction period so that it begins on 14 October; and
- Increase the annual abstraction quantity by 450,000 cubic metres.
The existing licence authorises abstraction from the Waterbeach Level Internal Drainage Board to fill the reservoirs in winter. The water is then discharged and re-abstracted from rivers and drains within the South Level System for the purpose of spray irrigation.
