The document contains advice on controlling and minimising the risk caused by the bacterium pseudomonas aeruginosa from water outlets.

It contains guidance on:

  • forming a water safety group and developing water safety plans

  • assessing the risk to patients when water systems become contaminated with pseudomonas aeruginosa

  • actions to take when a water system become contaminated with pseudomonas aeruginosa

  • how to sample, test and monitor water for pseudomonas aeruginosa

The guidance will be of particular use to estates and facilities departments, and infection prevention and control teams.
