Advancing Equality for Offenders and Children in Custody Policy Framework

This policy framework sets out how best to manage offenders and children in custody in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Details

This Policy Framework ensures that our obligations under the Public Sector Equality Duty are met, in respect of our care and management of offenders and children in custody.  Specifically,   

  • working to prevent and address discrimination on the grounds of the 9 protected characteristics: Age, Disability, Gender Reassignment, Marriage & Civil Partnership Pregnancy & Maternity, Race, Religion & Belief, Sex, Sexual Orientation
  • actively promoting diversity and inclusion
  • investigating and dealing with instances of discrimination when they arise

It includes guidance on legal obligations as well as the requirement for monitoring, reporting and producing equality analysis. Full implementation is expected on 1st January 2025.
