A member of the public complained about an advertisement for Nurofen Express Liquid Capsules (NELC) issued by Reckitt Benckiser which was broadcast on ITV 4 on Friday 27 July 2018. The complainant alleged that the advertisement was misleading because claims that NELC was faster acting and more efficacious than “standard paracetamol” gave the misleading impression that the product contained paracetamol instead of ibuprofen.
MHRA upheld the complaint. Reckitt Benckiser confirmed that they no longer use the advertisement and have no intention to air it in the future. Should the advertisement be issued again in the future they would make it clear that the product contains ibuprofen.
