SUMMARY REPORT FOR PUBLICATION
March 2021 Promotion of Phynova Joint & Muscle Pain Relief Tablets (Sigesbeckia extract) on website
The MHRA reviewed information on Phynova Joint & Muscle Pain Relief Tablets on their website. The MHRA was concerned that the website included advice provided by a named doctor in a form that appeared to make a recommendation for Sigesbeckia extract / Phynova Joint & Muscle Pain Relief. Regulation 289 prohibits the inclusion in advertising of a recommendation from a healthcare professional to use the specific medicine being advertised. The product is registered under the Traditional Herbal Registration (THR) Scheme on the basis of traditional use only and without evidence of efficacy.
The MHRA contacted the registration holder, Phynova, who removed the recommendations by the healthcare professional for the use of Sigesbeckia. They also ensured that claims for the use of the product are set in the context that the registration of the product is based solely on evidence of traditional use.
