23 November 2015: promotion of Tiger Balm by Omega Pharma Ltd

As part of MHRA’s regular review of published advertising, we reviewed an advertisement for Tiger Balm produced by Omega Pharma which appeared in Time Out magazine 13 October 2015. The advertisement claimed that Tiger Balm provided “Powerful Relief” from aches and pains. We were concerned that this suggested that the medicine provided relief that was above average for the range of medicines targeting aches and pains that are available over the counter and that this was not supported by statements in the summary of product characteristics and was unsubstantiated.

Omega Pharma agreed to amend the Tiger Balm website and confirmed that the claim would not be used in future promotional material.
