November 2020 Promotion of Bronchostop products on retailer web pages

The MHRA reviewed information on Buttercup Bronchostop Cough Syrup on retailer web pages including Chemist4U, Lloyds Pharmacy, Pharmacy Outlet and Ocado. The MHRA was concerned that the listings included wording suggesting the effects of the product have been demonstrated clinically, in particular by references to the “dual action” of the ingredients. The product is registered under the Traditional Herbal Registration (THR) Scheme on the basis of traditional use only and without evidence of efficacy.

MHRA contacted the marketing authorisation holder, Perrigo, who took steps to ensure that third party listing information was revised to remove wording suggesting the effects of the product have been demonstrated clinically.
