Aggregate Industries UK Limited: application made to abstract water

Aggregate Industries UK Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number NE/025/0002/020 which authorises abstraction from underground strata comprising of limestone from the area delineated by National Grid References (NGRs) NZ 01590 14170, NZ 01710 14220, NZ 01680 14240 and NZ 01630 14230 for the purpose of transferring it without intervening use to Thorsgill Beck at National Grid Reference NZ 01510 14340.

The variation applied for is: to include increased abstraction quantities on the transfer licence and to update the abstraction point to a larger area, delineated by NGRs NZ 01400 14400, NZ 02600 14400, NZ 02600 13700 and NZ 01400 13700.

Proposed abstraction volumes are:

  • 500 cubic metres per hour
  • 12,000 cubic metres per day
  • 1,460,000 cubic metres per year
  • At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 140 litres per second.
