Details of the application

Aggregate Industries UK Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a variation to a full licence to abstract water from the Underground strata comprising of the Borrowdale Sill Suite at Ghyll Scaur Quarry within the boundary formed by straight lines running between the following National Grid References: SD 16607 83361, SD 17304 83361, SD 17304 82355 and SD 16607 82355.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 500 cubic metres an hour

  • 12,000 cubic metres a day

  • 1,000,000 cubic metres a year

  • between 01 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be abstracted for the purpose of dewatering.
