Details

This guidance is for health and social care professionals and providers of alcohol support services in England. They can use it to advise parents, families, children and young people about alcohol consumption and the problems associated with underage drinking.

It was produced by a former Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in 2009, after a period of consultation.

In 2016, the guidelines on alcohol consumption for adults were updated by the 4 UK chief medical officers, based on the most up-to-date scientific information. That guidance did not replace this 2009 guidance for children and young people.
