Quota application mechanism trial
Published 3 February 2025
Applies to England
Following the successful pilot of the quota application mechanism (QAM) in 2024, an expanded trial is taking place in early 2025. This will invite producer organisations, crown dependency vessels and non-sectoral over-10-metre vessel licence holders to apply for additional quota through the QAM process.
The quota available for 2025 is estimated to include:
- 530 tonnes of North Sea cod
- 1,160 tonnes of North Sea saithe
- 3,000 tonnes of North Sea herring
- 210 tonnes of Western skates and rays
- 2,800 tonnes of Western mackerel
Participants will be asked to feed into an assessment process to assess its success against the wider objectives for sustainable management of fisheries in line with the Joint Fisheries Statement.
