Dear Home Secretary,

Angiolini Inquiry: Part 1 report for publication

1. I am very pleased to have submitted my part 1 report to you for publication.

2. During the course of part 1 of the Inquiry, the daily agony that the brutal abduction, rape and murder of Sarah Everard has caused for her loving family has never been far from my mind. But the Everard family are determined that Sarah’s tragic death at the hands of a serving police officer should bring about greater and earlier recognition of potential predators so as to help improve the safety of women in public spaces.

3. I know that this is also one of your top priorities. I sincerely hope that the government and others to whom my recommendations are directed will accept them and proceed with their swift implementation, to ensure that everything possible is being done to prevent those entrusted with the power of the office of constable from abusing that power in the most dreadful of circumstances.

4. I trust that you will be in a position to proceed with publication on Thursday 29 February as planned.

5. I am of course available to discuss any matter of concern at your convenience.

Yours sincerely,

[Signed]

Rt Hon Lady Elish Angiolini KC

Chair of the Angiolini Inquiry
