Anglian Water Services Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The following applications have been made to replace on the same terms time limited conditions to existing licences which are due to expire on 31 December 2022:

Application Number: NPS/WR/036697; Licence Number: 6/33/48/G/0122 Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Norfolk at TF 85 06; The variation being: Abstraction from an additional source at 6,623 cubic metres per day, 1,500,000 cubic metres per year. This licence is subject to a licence aggregate of 1,500,000 cubic metres per year (an increase from 1,227,000 cubic metres per year). The licence is subject to an aggregate with licence 6/33/48/G/0021 of 3,000,000 cubic metres per year.

Application Number: NPS/WR/036705; Licence Number: 7/34/15/*G/0177 Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Norfolk at TG 29 08; The variation being: Abstraction from an additional source at 313 cubic metres per hour, 7,500 cubic metres per day and 2,000,000 cubic metres per year.

Application Number: NPS/WR/036695; Licence Number: 6/33/48/G/0021 Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Norfolk at TF 93 09; The variation being: Abstraction from an additional source at 198 cubic metres per hour, 4,400 cubic metres per day and 1,091,040 cubic metres per year. This licence is subject to a licence aggregate of 6,000 cubic metres per day and 1,700,000 cubic metres per year (an increase from 4,400 cubic metres per day and 1,091,040 cubic metres per year). The licence is subject to an aggregate with licence 6/33/48/G/0122 of 3,000,000 cubic metres per year.

Application Number: NPS/WR/036698; Licence Number: 6/33/56/G/0055 Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Suffolk, one source (A) at TL 72 75 and two sources at (B and C) TL 73 76 and additional sources (D and E) at TL 72 75; The variation being: Abstraction from two additional sources in total of 180 cubic metres per hour, 4,320 cubic metres per day and 1,576,800 cubic metres per year. Subject to an aggregate between sources A, D and E of 8,728 cubic metres per day and 3,185,836 cubic metres per year. Increase in total abstraction quantity for the whole licence to from 15,456 to 15,500 cubic metres per day and 2,818,520 to 3,800,000 cubic metres per year. Specification of quantities authorised from each source – Source A being 8,728 cubic metres per day, 3,185,836 cubic metres per year. Source B and C each being 10,910 cubic metres per day and 3,800,000 cubic metres per year. This licence is subject to an aggregate with licences AN/033/0037/001/R02, 6/33/39/G/0012, 6/33/56/G/0096 and 6/33/39/G/0008 of 9,055,000 cubic metres per year.

Application Number: NPS/WR/036699; Licence Number: 6/33/56/G/0096 Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Suffolk at TL 74 75; The variation being: Increase in total abstraction quantity from 4,546 to 7,000 cubic metres per day and 682,000 to 1,500,000 cubic metres per year Specification of quantities authorised from each source – Source A and B each being 2,739 cubic metres per day, 1,000,000 cubic metres per year. Source C being 7,000 cubic metres per day and 1,500,000 cubic metres per year. This licence is subject to an aggregate with licences AN/033/0037/001/R02, 6/33/39/G/0012, 6/33/56/G/0055 and 6/33/39/G/0008 of 9,055,000 cubic metres per year.

Application Number: NPS/WR/036689; Licence Number: 6/33/37/G/0032 Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Suffolk at TL 77 68; The variation being: Abstraction from an additional source, with no change to the existing quantities.This licence is subject to a group licence aggregate with licences 6/33/37/G/0031, 6/33/37/G/0200, 6/33/37/G/0205 and 6/33/37/*G/0428/R02 increasing from 7,468,000 to 8,000,000 cubic metres per year.

Application Number: NPS/WR/036693; Licence Number: 6/33/42/*G/0020 Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Norfolk at TL 95 81; The variation being: Increase quantities authorised from Source C to 150 cubic metres per hour, 3,500 cubic metres per day and 1,000,000 cubic metres per year, with an increase in the total licenced aggregate to the same amounts (increase from 79.5 cubic metres per hour, 1,909 cubic metres per day and 696,902 cubic metres per year). The licence is also subject to a group aggregate which is not changing.

Application Number: NPS/WR/036694; Licence Number: 6/33/45/*G/0016 Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Norfolk at TL 85 86; The variation being: Abstraction from an additional three sources, Source D of 144 cubic metres per hour, 3,456 cubic metres per day and 1,850,000 cubic metres per year and Sources E and F in aggregate of 142 cubic metres per hour, 3,400 cubic metres per day and 1,000,000 cubic metres per year. The licence is subject to a total licence aggregate of 284 cubic metres per hour, 6,800 cubic metres per day and 1,850,000 cubic metres per year (an increase from 1,659,000 cubic metres per year). The licence is subject to a further licence aggregate that is not changing.

Application Number: NPS/WR/036702; Licence Number: 7/34/13/*G/0186 Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Norfolk at TG 18 08; The variation being: Increased daily abstraction to 6,000 cubic metres from 4,365 cubic metres (Also abstraction of 54 cubic metres per hour, 1296 cubic metres per day and 234,000 cubic metres per year for the purpose of compensation discharge. The licence is subject to a further licence aggregates that are not changing.

This licence is subject to an aggregate with licence 6/33/44/G/0278 of 6,500 cubic metres per day. This licence is also aggregated with licences 6/33/42/G/0020, 6/33/44/G/0278 and 6/33/44/G/0033/R02 of 2,200,000 cubic metres per year (with no change in annual quantity).

Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Norfolk at TF 94 00; The licence authorising the abstraction of 4,800 cubic metres per day, 800,000 cubic metres per year. This licence is subject to an aggregate with licence 6/33/48/*G/0285/R02 of 814,760 cubic metres per year.

For all applications the water will be abstracted all year and used for public water supply unless stated otherwise.

For all applications the Applicant has applied to abstract on the same terms as presently authorised. The Applicant opposes reductions being made to the authorised annual abstraction quantities, designed to avoid the risk of waterbody deterioration, being made immediately, citing (amongst other things) over-riding public interest under Regulation 19 of the Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Regulations 2017.
