Details of the application

Anglian Water Services Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The following application has been made to replace on the same terms the time limited conditions on an existing licence number 7/34/11/*G/0486 which are due to expire on 31 March 2024:

Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Norfolk at National Grid Reference TG 16 13;

The time limited conditions being:

  • Abstraction for an additional purpose of public water supply (existing use filling pits for subsequent re-abstraction for public water supply under licence 7/34/11/*G/0399).
  • Increased abstraction from 20,000 to 30,000 cubic metres per day and 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 cubic metres per year.
  • Aggregate between this licence for the purpose of public water supply and licences 7/34/11/S/0399 and 7/34/11/G/0399 of 57,735 cubic metres per day and 17,000,000 cubic metres per year.

No changes are proposed to the licence aggregate between this licence and licence 7/34/11/*S/0399 of 120,000 cubic metres per day and 17,000,000 cubic metres per year.

Abstraction is required all year.

The Applicant has applied to abstract on the same terms as presently authorised. The Applicant opposes reductions being made to the authorised annual abstraction quantities, designed to avoid the risk of waterbody deterioration, being made immediately, citing (amongst other things) over-riding public interest under Regulation 19 of the Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Regulations 2017.
