Anglian Water Services Limited: application made to abstract water

Anglian Water Services Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from groundwater in the City of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, and Norfolk, in the area bounded by National Grid References TF 28 06, TF 27 03, TF 59 05, and TF 60 03. The water will be transferred to surface water in the City of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, and Norfolk, in the area bounded by National Grid References TF 28 06, TF 27 03, TF 59 05, and TF 60 03, without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 840 cubic metres an hour

  • 20,000 cubic metres a day

  • 250,000 cubic metres a year

The purpose of the abstraction is to lower groundwater levels where required to facilitate construction of a section of Anglian Water’s new Grantham to Bexwell pipeline.
