Appraisal of the potential social, economic and environmental impacts of the proposed policy in the draft Airports National Policy Statement. It also recommends options for mitigating potential impacts. It is a requirement under the Planning Act 2008 that national policy statements must be accompanied by an appraisal of sustainability.
Topic based options assessments (appendix a) provide in-depth analysis of the potential direct and indirect effects. Individual appendices cover: community, quality of life, economy, noise, biodiversity, soils, water, air quality, carbon, resources and waste, historic environment, and landscape.
Appendices b, c and d outline information on the shortlisting of alternative schemes, scoping responses from statutory environmental bodies, and variations to scheme designs.
