Appraisal of the potential social, economic and environmental impacts of the policy set out in the proposed Airports National Policy Statement and recommends options for mitigating potential impacts.
This appraisal of sustainability updates the Appraisal of sustainability for the revised draft Airports National Policy Statement, published for the second consultation in October 2017.
The change log summarises revisions made to the appraisal of sustainability since it was published for consultation in October 2017.
Topic based options assessments (appendix a) provide in-depth analysis of the potential direct and indirect effects. Individual appendices cover: community, quality of life, economy, noise, biodiversity, soils, water, air quality, carbon, resources and waste, historic environment and landscape.
Appendices b, c and d outline information on the shortlisting of alternative schemes, scoping responses from statutory environmental bodies and variations to scheme designs.
The scoping report, supporting appendices and consultation scoping report set out the appraisal framework used to test the alternatives as part of the full appraisal of sustainability and document the responses to the consultation held on the proposed scoping.
Under the Planning Act 2008 an appraisal of sustainability must accompany a National Policy Statement.
