Request

  1. How many apprentices in total were taken on in 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008?

  2. Of the above, how many were ‘internal apprenticeships’, ie people who were already employed by the department,in 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008?

  3. Of the figures given in question 1, how many people were externally recruited for the apprenticeship, in 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008?

  4. How many people went on to be employed by the department after completing an apprenticeship with the department in 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008?

  5. Of the figures given in question 4, how many people were put on full-time, permanent contracts, in 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008?

Response

The department has recruited 74 apprentices since 2008; 10 in 2008, 19 in 2009, 12 in 2010, 0 in 2011 due to the Arm’s Length Bodies Reform Programme, 33 in 2012. All apprentices were externally recruited.

22 apprentices secured a permanent post in the department on completion of their apprenticeship; 4 from the 2008 cohort, 8 from the 2009 cohort, 10 from the 2010 cohort. The 2012 cohort are currently part way through their apprenticeship programme.

The department has also offered to provide places for 20 apprentices from the Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship Scheme Pilot and is at the planning stage for the next round of recruitment of apprentices to the department via the National Apprenticeship Scheme.
