Arcadis (UK) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the chalk aquifer at Abbots Gate, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk at National Grid References TL 85734 63192, TL 85724 63190, TL 85734 63190, TL 85740 63190, TL 85726 63188, TL 85735 63188, TL 85736 63187, TL 85729 63186 and TL 85735 63171.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 5 cubic metres an hour
- 99 cubic metres a day
- 36,135 cubic metres a year
- All year.
The water will be used for groundwater pollution remediation. The majority of the treated water will be returned to the chalk aquifer and the remainder will be discharged to a nearby sewer.
