Assessing fraud in legal aid applications 2023

This Data Usage Agreement covers the disclosure by HMRC to the Legal Aid Agency to assess potential fraud within legal aid applications.

Details

This agreement is published as part of the Code of Practice for public authorities disclosing information under chapters 1, 3 and 4 (Public Service Delivery, Debt and Fraud) of part 5 of the Digital Economy Act 2017.

HMRC disclose this information to the Legal Aid Agency by virtue of the legal basis Digital Economy Act (2017), part 5, chapter 4, section 56.

The benefits of this pilot data share are to demonstrate the value of sharing LAA fraud related data with HMRC to assess potential fraudulent claims in the legal aid application process.
