These guidelines explain the conditions and the criteria for the award of Military Campaign Medals.

Details

The Prime Minister asked Sir John Holmes to carry out a review of military campaign medals. The independent report was published in July 2012. Other reviews of individual medals and other issues were conducted by Sir John, Brigadier Brian Parritt and others.

This general guidance has been agreed by the Committee on the Grant of Honours, Decorations and Medals and endorsed by Her Majesty The Queen. It covers awarding future medals, and potential controversies that may arise from these awards.
