Details

This Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) advice reviews scientific evidence on the welfare impacts of preslaughter handling of horses, particularly those that can become fractious in the slaughterhouse environment.

Based on the scientific evidence and the extensive experience and expertise of the committee, AWC recommend that government prioritises the welfare of fractious horses in these difficult end of life situations by allowing such horses to be slaughtered in pairs.
