Balfour Beatty plc: application made to abstract water

Balfour Beatty plc has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the Millstone Grit Group aquifer. There are two abstraction areas: abstraction area one is within National Grid References (NGRs) SJ 99341 96190, SJ 99445 96097, SJ 99122 96014, SJ 99107 96025 and abstraction area two is within NGRs SJ 99474 96194, SJ 99732 95994, SJ 99778 95812 and SJ 99447 96008 at Mottram, Greater Manchester. This project is expected to last for 32 months.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 51 cubic metres an hour
- 1,210 cubic metres a day
- 441,650 cubic metres a year
- all year.
The licence will be used for dewatering for the purpose of the A57 Link Roads development scheme. The proposed abstraction points lie within the Upper Mersey Abstraction Licensing Strategy.
