This report provides an in-depth understanding of the barriers and facilitators influencing individuals’ reporting of both positive and negative lateral flow device (LFD) test results during the period of the universal testing offer (April 2021 to end of March 2022).

Insights contained in the report will provide valuable learning for future pandemic responses involving universal testing. This research aims to inform the development of a future robust universal testing offer that includes appropriate return of results.

This qualitative research study conducted among the general public covers various aspects, including COM-B analysis, the role of the LFD testing user journey, potential incentives to report COVID-19 LFD test results, use of an acceptability framework to evaluate incentives, and a retrospective analysis of the testing process and engagement with testing communications.
