Berkeley Homes (East Thames) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from underground strata comprising of Chalk at National Grid References TQ 45024 78948 and TQ 45142 78989 in Plumstead, Greater London.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 216 cubic metres an hour

  • 5,184 cubic metres a day

  • 1,892,160 cubic metres a year

  • between 01 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for an open loop ground source heat pump system for new residential properties.

All of the abstracted water will be returned to the Chalk.
