Bethell Construction Limited: application made to abstract water

Bethell Construction Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from underground strata comprising of Sand and Clay at Savick Brook, Preston at National Grid References (NGRs):

MH10 area:

Within the boundary formed by straight lines running between the following NGRs: SD 48577 30301, SD 48584 30304, SD 48587 30297 and SD 48580 30294.

MH11 area:

Within the boundary formed by straight lines running between the following NGRs: SD 48535 30401, SD 48543 30404, SD 48546 30397 and SD 48538 30394 to transfer it to Savick Brook at NGRs SD 48428 30292 and SD 48576 30392 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

From Well point 1 (MH10):

  • 12.96 cubic metres an hour

  • 311 cubic metres a day

  • 85,100 cubic metres a year

  • At an instantaneous rate of 3.6 litres per second.

From Well point 2 (MH11):

  • 54 cubic metres an hour

  • 1,296 cubic metres a day

  • 393,984 cubic metres a year

  • At an instantaneous rate of 15 litres per second.

Abstracting between 01 April and 31 March inclusive in each year from both well points.

The water will be used for dewatering to facilitate the construction of a proposed shaft excavation. This is required for the proposed Savick Brook crossing, for the purpose of constructing a new gravity fed foul sewer installation.
