Boscastle flood defence improvements

Proposed improvements to the flood defences on the River Jordan in Boscastle will not need an environmental statement.

Details

The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement work to the flood defences on the River Jordan in Boscastle, between Doctors Hill Debris Screen (NGR SX 09869 90599) and the corner of vehicle repair workshop (NGR SX 09872 90573), a distance of 0.02 kilometres.

The proposed improvement work will involve the following:

  • reinforcing the existing right bank of the channel (looking downstream) with natural pitched stone over a distance of approximately 15 metres
  • installing low level natural stone check weirs within the channel bed over a distance of approximately 20 metres to stabilise both the riverbank and riverbed.

This is in accordance with Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Land Drainage Improvement Works) Regulations 1999 as amended by SI 2005/1399 and SI 2006/618.
