Details
In 2022, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council requested exceptional financial support. On 2 September 2022, the former Local Government Minister agreed in principle to support Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council with up to £20 million financial support, providing they produce a full financial plan for 2023/24 and that they agree to a non-statutory external assurance report of their governance and finance.
The non-statutory external review at Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council was completed in June 2023 and submitted to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
On 30 January 2024 a Best Value Notice was issued as a formal notification that the department had concerns regarding the authority and requesting that the council engages with the department to provide assurance of improvement.
On 9 September 2024 the authority was notified that ministers are reassured as to the authority’s capacity to comply with its Best Value Duty under the Local Government Act 1999 and that the Notice will not be reissued at this time.
