2022 UK-Brazil joint declaration
Updated 29 November 2022
After exploratory talks to find common ground on the principles for a possible Double Taxation Agreement (DTA), the United Kingdom and Brazil are pleased to announce the first round of negotiations, which will be launched during a visit by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs to Brasilia between 12 and 16 September 2022.
A DTA is a bilateral agreement to address how each country will tax cross-border income, prevent tax avoidance and evasion, and provide relief from double taxation. A DTA establishes limits on how each country’s domestic legislation can tax cross border income (including payments of dividends, interest and royalties). A DTA has been a consistent ask of businesses in both the UK and Brazil. The signing of an agreement will have an important role to play in increasing cross-border trade and investment, providing long term certainty and stability to business, and in enhancing our bilateral relationship.
