Published 13 March 2025

Applies to England

Details of the application

Breedon Trading Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number AN/029/0004/008, which authorises the abstraction of water from underground strata comprising glaciolacustrine deposits at Kettleby Quarry, Brigg for the purpose of transferring it without intervening use to the Skegger Beck at National Grid Reference TA 04666 09051.

The proposed variation aims to extend the existing abstraction area to include an additional location that has recently received planning permission. The new abstraction area, which encompasses the existing abstraction area and the extension, is defined by straight lines connecting the following National Grid References (NGRs): TA 04687 09227, TA 05522 08946, TA 05436 08135 and TA 04159 08088.

Additionally, the variation includes adding a new discharge reach between the NGRs: TA 04838 08595 and TA 04361 08097.

The application also requests an increase in the existing licensed abstraction quantities to:

  • 42 litres per second

  • 151 cubic metres an hour

  • 1,812 cubic metres a day

  • 538,290 cubic metres a year

Abstraction will take place all year for dewatering purposes.
